The NEW multi-million pound waste depot and recycling centre is set to incorporate 2 RHI Rainwater harvesting systems in the coming months.

The new plant, currently being built at Strahan’s Road, will cost £4.5m and is aimed at driving down dramatically the amount of waste currently being sent to landfill.

Three current waste facilities – one at the Urney Road, a second at Newtownstewart and finally one at Strabane District Council offices – will close to make way for the new plant.

Plans for the new waste transfer facility and recycling centre were unveiled on Monday night, when Strabane Council struck a rates increase of almost four percent.
