Rainwater Harvesting System at Ireland's Largest Sporting Arena

Accommodating 82,300 fans, Croke Park is the 4th largest stadium in Europe. It was the 1st stadium in Ireland and the UK to secure both ISO 14001 and ISO 20121 standards in 2012, and in 2016 became the 1st stadium in the world to obtain certification to the newest International Environmental Standard ISO 14001:2015.

As one of Croke Parks 4 pillars of stadium sustainability, water conservation is key to achieving sustainability goals.

Croke Park is a member of the Water Stewardship Program, run by Irish Water. This programme is accredited to the European Water Stewardship standards (EWS).

In 2024, Croke Park installed a Rainwater Harvesting System which holds up to 900,000 litres of rain water at any given time. This saves a significant amount of water for the stadium and is used primarily for pitch irrigation.

RHI Water Ltd was chosen to provide our HYDRAPRO® FT-10 Rainwater filter as part of this prestigious project. The HYDRAPRO® FT-10 Filter provides ample rainwater flow capacity for very large rain catchment areas such as Stadiums, Sports Arenas or large commercial and industrial complexes. The HYDRAPRO® FT-10 rainwater filter has been fitted with the optional wash-bar which automatically cleans the filter periodically, minimising the need for maintenance while maintaining the high flow rate and efficiency of the filter. The low invert drop required across the filter, which is the best in class for this type of filter, permitted installation without compromising filter performance.

In February of 2025, Croke Park was recognised as the “Green Medium Sized Organization of the Year” and also received the “Green Tourism and Entertainment Award” at the Green Awards 2025.
